STATEMENT ON THE EXHIBITION-CONTEST

The exhibition-contest within the framework of the Imperial Gardens of Russia Annual International Festival in the grounds of the Russian Museum is the unique project, which is the alternative of the indoors landscape exhibitions. The high standard of the contest allows to promote prestige and image of participants and present in an orderly fashion their services or production not only for experts who visited highly specialized exhibitions but for the general public.
The contest-festival's participants have the unique opportunity of getting acquainted and associating with garden masters and well-known landscape architects.
1. Aims and Tasks:
- Rebirth and development of traditions of gardening art, landscape architecture and design in Russia.
- Development of the ecologically and aesthetically favourable environment in the center of the European megapolis.
- Evocation in memory and raising of public historical consciousness based on the understanding of personal involvement into the history of Russian and Petersburg culture.
- Granting Russian and foreign contributors broad opportunities for realizing their creative potential; combination of traditional and innovative technologies in gardening art.
- Encouragement of a collection branch in ornamental gardening and flower- growing.
- Revival of traditions connected with the flower festivals of Russia.
- Involvement of foreign experts in collaboration and exchange of experience.
- Development of landscape tourism.
- Promotion of the Russian Museum's program of creation of a unique landscape gardening complex in the historical center of Saint Petersburg.
- Inclusion of the Festival into the program of the World Flower and Landscape Art festivals.
2. General Clauses:
1.1. The exhibition-contest will be held in the open-air of the Russian Museum historical gardens annually during several days with installation and full dismantling of exhibition displays as well as renewal of damaged grass area after exhibition-contest completion.
1.2. Organizing Committee determines theme of the exhibition-contest, Conditions of conducting of the contest, nominations according to which participants will be awarded, as well as the plan of expositional places and accomodates all the information on the official site of the contest.
1.3. Participants create compositions on a certain set theme. Exhibitions in the garden (gardens) locate on the allotted garden areas of different sizes with or without trees, on the water space of ponds, on slopes and in existing flower gardens. (The scheme of the lots is enclosed in participant's package of documents).
1.4. The Jury that consists of well-known landscape architects and workers of culture assesses the Participants' works and announces names of winners according to the results of the contest.
1.5. The Jury assesses participants' works according to a 10-marks system and the following criteria:
- Historical accuracy (detailed study of the material, ensuring the title describes the exhibit correctly).
- Originality of presentation.
- Artistic and aesthetic consideration.
- Quality of execution.
- Quality of materials used.
1.6. The Jury awards winners according to the results of the exhibition-contest.
3. Location of the Exhibition-Contest
3.1. The first international exhibition-contest will be held in the Mikhailovsky Garden of the Russian Museum, landscape-gardening monument of the late 18th - early 19th centuries, which is secured by the Russian Federation. Subsequently exhibition-contest may be held in all gardens of the Russian Museum.
During the contest entrance on the territory of the Mikhailovsky Garden will be through two gates. One of the gates locates from the direction of Sadovaya Str., the other - from the direction of the temple of the Resurrection of Christ ("Saviour on the Blood").
4. Conditions of Participation in the Exhibition-Contest
- According to the Conditions, organizations that wish to participate in the contest address their projects to the Organizing Committee.
- Participant presents the Design project of lot that was chosen on the General Territory Plan in advance. If different organizations present several Design projects for one and the same lot, the Organizing Committee will take the final decision in the field of distribution of the garden area.
- The Organizing Committee considers all Design projects in 20 days from the moment of their receiving. Design project may be accepted without remarks or issued for re-making, or it may be returned to declarant.
- The final confirmation of Design projects is carrying on the session of the Organizing Committee.
- The Organizing Committee send the e-mail form of Application-contract for the participation in the exhibition-contest to the organizations, Design projects of which were considered and selected for further participation in the exhibition-contest.
- Organization-participant fills in the Application and sends it to the Organizing Committee of the exhibition-contest.
- If all the lots are distributed and there are not enough lots for the Design Projects that were selected by the Organizing Committee, the Organizing Committee takes a decision to allocate reserve lots or it gives lots for team-creation of compositions by diverse organizations.
- Payment for the participation in the exhibition-contest effects in 7 days from the moment of opening an account on the ground of put forward to the participant account and in accordance with participant's Application-contract.
- Organization gets a status of participant of the exhibition-contest after signing of the Application-contract and payment for bill.
- If a payment wasn't effected in time the Organizing Committee of the exhibition-contest strikes off the organization from a list of Participants.
- The complete list of participants places on the official site of the exhibition-contest.
- All the participants sign the document that stipulates rules of behavior on the guarded territory-monument.
- Participant bears all financial expenses for Design project realization by himself.
- Participant maintains aesthetic condition of the composition by himself.
- During the fixed period participant is to dismantle the exposition, restore faulted garden area on the expiry of the exhibition-contest period and hand it over to the Organizing Committee spokesman.
- Volume of renewal of disturbed territory of the lot in the completion of exposition will be determined in the process of consideration of the Project and agreed with Participant.
5. The Exhibition-Contest Leaders
5.1. The Organizing Committee is the Administration Organ of the Festival.
5.2. Director of the Russian Museum is the President of the Organizing Committee. The main responsibilities of the President are:
- Leadership and coordination of work of the Organizing Committee
- Confirmation of projects for participation in the exhibition-contest
5.3. The main responsibilities of the Organizing Committee are:
- Determination of the annual festival location
- Elaboration of expositional places plan
- Elaboration of themes for the annual exhibition-contest
- Determination of nominations according to which the winners will be awarded
- Sending the Application-contract to organizations, which projects were selected for the participation in the exhibition-contest
- Coordination work with the organizations-participations of the exhibition-contest
5.4. Within the framework of the Festival the Group of Experts will be formed.
The main responsibilities of the Group of Experts members are:
- Consideration and confirmation of Design projects by organizations that wished to participate in the exhibition-contest
- Assistance in the promotion of the Festival idea equally in Russia and abroad
6. Concluding Clauses
6.1. Prizes and awards:
Prize-winners of the Festival (who got the first, the second and the third places) will be awarded memorial gifts and honorary certificates of the Imperial Gardens of Russia Festival.
All the participants will be awarded certificates and memorial gifts.
Special gifts and prizes are: "Audience Choice Award", "Sponsor Award" etc.
6.2. Participants of the Imperial Gardens of Russia Festival are:
- Voluntary, state and commercial organizations from the cities of Russia and foreign countries (landscape-gardening holdings, landscape and design firms, building organizations connected with landscape design, florists, landscape architects, designers, collectors, information technology programmers in the field of landscape design etc.)
- Producers and distributors of cut and pot flowers, decorative deciduous plants and nursery's production.
- Producers and distributors of attendant pottery and souvenir production, as well as ceramic, glass, metal and the other material architecture of small forms.
- Academic-research and educational institutes, botanic gardens.
- Service and specialist advice companies, transport companies, connected with landscape design.
- Specialized landscape editions.
List of participants may be extended.
Restrictions:
- Due to the protected conditions of the historical landscape as well as the Russian Museum Gardens location in the centre of the city, installation and dismantling with delivery and removal of expositions will be carried out according to the schedule concerted with the participants in the process of signing of the Application-agreement.
- Exposition constructions with digging in the earth or damaging the root system in tree crown area are not allowed to use on the lots with old trees.
